It is known that ozone in solution (ozone-water) is a powerful disinfectant that rapidly kills bacteria that are normally found in flower water. The uncontrolled growth of bacteria in cut stems (the xylem) restricts and prevents the uptake of water causing the premature death of cut flowers. Therefore, disinfecting flower water extends the life of cut flowers - by a significant factor.
We make flowercare products for domestic and commercial use. These are small but robust devices that are simply placed in vases and flower containers.
The minute electrolytic cells generate a very small amount of ozone in solution when a current is switched on. The cells typically required a current of 600 mA and this is supplied by a standard mobile phone charger or rechargeable battery.
In practice, only a very small amount of ozone is required to control the growth of bacterial colonies in flower water and to maintain the required level of disinfection. Larger ozone cells are available for florists and commercial use.
